I have the Innotek 5100 system with 1000+ ft of fence wire.
On Tuesday 04/03/2012, my property was hit by lightning. It destroyed two computers, DSL modem, Router, Two network switches, Plasma TV, Roku player, several other small electronic items and my water well pump. Everything except the well pump was on UPS battery backup units that had surge protection and they still fried.
The fence wire was melted in 10 spots and had to be replaced. The LP-4100 surge protector was charged black inside and out. The wire was blown in half where it enters the surge protector , but my main fence unit is still working.
I am impressed that this surge protector worked so well in the face of such a large lightning strike.

I went through 2 other transmitters before I learned that lightning/storms is what was shorting them out. We have been through numberous storms this summer already since I purchased the lightning protector and have NOT had one problem!!! Totally a MUST HAVE!! It might be an extra $30 that you really don't want to spend at the time, but if you compare to the $100+ that you'd have to spend to get a transmitter. Not to mention not having a transmitter to keep your loved ones in your yard and save......so incredibly worth every single penny!

Took a nasty lighting strike on my property last week. Fried my PS3, satellite, and tripped my circuit breakers. Fence was not working, removed this unit and opened it up and oh my, it was black inside. Hooked the fence back up without the unit and it was working properly again. Still think this thing is way overpriced as simple as it is, but at least it is cheaper than replacing the transmitter unit(which I have done three times already).

My wife and I love to hike with our German Shepherd. However, her (the dog) behavior had become an issue. Whenever, she sees another dog or horse, she loses her mind, and we lose control of her. We did not want to resolve ourselves to hike with her on a leash.
Now that we have this device she "comes" on command, and not on the second or third time we call. She comes the first time, and to my hand. Now we can hike with her, and gain control when we see dogs, horses, and those who do not share our enthusiasm for dogs.
I like to add this devise is not cruel in any form. It has a dial of 8 settings. I tried it on myself. I could not feel "1" at all. "2" and "3" tingled. "4" felt uncomfortable (not painful), and that is where our dog is set.

I've belonged to PETA, World Wildlife Fund, and I have volunteered at shelters, etc... My life has always had an animal in it and I love animals. That was until my husband brought home a pug puppy. For a year I was tortured by my guilt over my extreme dislike of this dog. She bit, she chewed (going to happen with puppies - I know - but it was INSANE), she scratched, she jumped, she made messes, she started to use my toddlers as chew toys and no matter what we did, who trained her, where we took her - she wasn't getting it. She has been crate trained from the beginning and she still wasn't getting the fact that she had to "go" outside. I wish I would have bought this years ago for a previous dog that I owned. I use this collar on a dog that weighs 12 pounds and the collar would easily adjust to fit to an even smaller dog. We use it for many reasons i.e. stopped her nipping at the kids, walking off leash w/o running away, not barking, etc. This product is a miracle. I absolutely love it!!!

We have tried this collar and the Tri tronics bark collar for small dogs, and the Petsafe collar is smaller and seems to be more comfortable on our 3 small dogs. The other thing we like about the Petsafe collar is that it is self-adjusting, so if your dog barks once and the first mild shock doesn't correct the barking, it automatically increases the intensity of the shock. The intensity of the Tri tronics collar needs to be manually adjusted by you. Both are good products, but the Petsafe collar works better for us and our mini dachshunds & Papillion.

I have a boxer puppy and I am crate training her. Within a few weeks of use this device has taught her not to bark when she goes into her kennel while I'm at work. I bought this tool initially because I was concerned that her persistant barking would break the sanity for myself and the neighbors. It's a great tool when used correctly and consistently.

Yes, the fact that you have to buy a "special" battery for the device is ridiculous, but you can't deny that it stops the yapping. Make sure you place the device on your little yip-yip snug enough and in the right place as detailed in the directions. Also, be persistent with usage or the dog wont learn to be quiet. Initially, batteries lasted only about 2-3 weeks, but now I go over 3 months on one battery, if I even need to use the collar at all.

Purchased this collar for our bichon-poo, he is a little yippy at times. Collar worked fine for about a week, then he started barking again, replaced the battery that cost $10.00, I figured we had a defective battery. Same thing, worked for a week and then the barking started again. Not sure what the problem is, but it seems like the battery only lasts a short time, the dog is not barking when the collar is working so he is not what is causing the battery to run down. Will be returning collar to place of purchase (not amazon) and will buy a different brand, such as Innotek. E-mailed Petsafe without any response.
