Product Description

PetSafe's Stubborn Dog In-Ground radio fence pet containment system provides your pets that are stubborn or hard to train with freedom and safety while costing thousands less than conventional fencing. Recommended for dogs 30 pounds and up. It's quick and easy to install, reliable and safe, and with proper training, a very effective solution. 5.0 out of 5 stars Stubborn Dogs Meet Their Match!, September 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: PetSafe Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence, PIG00-10777 (Misc.)
I have two Alaskan Spitz on six acres of chainlink fenced land. I also have ten cats the two dogs have pretty much raised like their own - and they are all crazy about each other and are all "outside" animals. Normally the dogs are well-behaved but they have thick fur to match some thick headedness, and are stubborn as mules when they want to be.

A while back people began moving into a new adjoining subdivision, and also began letting their dogs roam freely despite city ordinances. Of course, it was too much for my dogs to see other dogs roaming freely where they couldn't go. Soon they started getting out and learning how others got around fences. I finally had to chain them inside my fence, to keep them home - after having never had any problem like this from them in the past. Of course, the cats went everywhere and the dogs wanted to follow them, but mostly only because they are protective of them. At least the cats know to stay in the yard when other dogs are... 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent system - Easy to install, May 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: PetSafe Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence, PIG00-10777 (Misc.)
We have a 6 foot stockade fence on a .5 acre space that we thought would be sufficient with a 3yr old Husky and a 1 year old Golden Retriever. We had constant issues with them digging holes at the base of the fence to escape and chewing on the wood. I ordered this system as a backup to deter them from doing any more damage. I found it was easy to install right to the outside of the existing fence without the need for a lot of wire burying and we were able to setup the collars and start training the same day. I placed the flags visibly along the inside perimeter of the fence and made sure to point them out to the dogs during the training. It only took one or two warnings from the collar to correct their behavior. Collars have 5 settings so it is easy to adjust the level of correction based on the size of dog and the thickness of their coat. The Golden Retreiver responds to the lower settings where a full grown Husky may require level 3 or 4. Base unit has an adjustment for... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 months later and the system is out, July 3, 2010
This review is from: PetSafe Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence, PIG00-10777 (Misc.)
Purchased on 4/16/10. System fried out by 6/25/10. Installation was easy enough just time consuming. The dog quickly adapted and stayed within the confines. However, the system decided to crap out on us. After calling petsafe they insisted that the wire was broken somewhere. So in response to this we purchased a "Wire Break Locator" made by petsafe. We found nothing. Again for a second time I called petsafe only to be told again that it was the wire. So for a second time I took it upon myself to go out and purchase new wire. I did the loop test which intially gave me a good test. The problem, when I laid all the wire and made it back to the transmitter and connected it, the device would only work intermitently. It would at times be silent with both lights on indicating that the loop was good and at other times it would suddenly just start beeping with one of the lights off for a good minute before silencing again. I attempted to reconnect the wires several times only to have the same... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT for the wireless system, August 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: PetSafe Extra Collar (2.5 oz) (Misc.)
I thought the price was too good to be true. This item is NOT for the wireless Petsafe system. I saw the wireless system was listed as a "Frequently Bought Together" item. Mis-leading and lead to a bad decision. I hope I can find some to take it off my hands. The seller should at least provide a model number or I should have asked. I rated this bad for the lack of information.

Nothing wrong with the item itself, it just doesn't have any details about the product listed. This leads to purchasing with a system it won't work with. Had to get Amazon involved to get money back from the seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm, January 13, 2010

Some of the negative reviews crack me up. Typical modern day attitude, blame everything on somebody else. Common sense will do much more than any instruction manual. Petsmart can't control the fact that an animal is an animal, which is why it is YOUR responsibility to properly train your animal, and not turn them loose till they are fully trained and under control. For the first couple days I took our cat past all the flags and scolded him if he tried to go near them (without the collar). I had to be very careful and keep a leash on him at first, because he would freak out and run blindly in any direction(including up my leg with sharp claws) when he got shocked. Only after he figured things out and knew that the beep would be followed by a shock, and promptly back away till the beep stopped, did I leave the collar on him without a leash. <--Reread the last sentence, because that makes the difference between a safe pet and a lost/dead one. Now he knows where his limits are, and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Cats love to be outside, May 18, 2008

What a fantastic way to keep your cat or cats safe.

I installed the petsafe in ground fencing two years ago and successfully trained one large twelve year old stubborn, car chaising dog, a very cooperative medium sized six month old pup and a six month old cat. The cat collar works with the same buried wire as the dog, so you could have as many pets in your containment area as you like. All you have to do is follow the manufacturers instructions doing exactly as they say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat fence receiver, March 17, 2010

After my vet recommended an electric fence for our cats, my husband and I installed one with collars for small dogs. Those collars were less expensive than this one, and the batteries lasted longer, but they looked too large and heavy for my cats. I got one of these smaller collars for cats, and they look more appropriate for cats.

Because this collar is smaller and weighs less, the battery is also smaller. As a result, the batteries do not last the same amount of time. However, unlike the small dog collars, this one has an "on & off" switch. As long as you remember to turn it off when it is not on the cat, it last longer than some reviews have indicated. In addition, with either the small dog, or cat, collars, it is important to check whether the batteries are still working. Before I realized this, I found my cat strolling in the yard on the other side of the fence. After I changed the battery, she wasn't happy that she could no longer go wherever she wanted.
